Our breeding history
Why the prefix STARDEW?

The name Stardew is – in fact a nonexistent word.

In the pedigree of our first bitch we found, however a grandmother called Styvechale Stardew of Cilleine.

We thought the name was beautiful and carrying a kind of symbol as well.

We will in our breeding thoughtfully try to get as close to the stars as possible – also considering the dogs who bears the position as a star in their very own family.

The interest to the specific type of the English cocker spaniel - we like to name as our type – was born while reading old English yearbooks back in 1983.

These books became our inspiration – and we experienced that all the dogs we saw as beautiful – had the same ancestors. We talked to several breeders in Denmark with exactly the same lines in their breeding.

We bought our dog Wise-Choice I’M a Winner in 1985.
He was out of Wise-Choice Star Mistress and by CH Balonys Love Levity – the dog owned by Kim Bay DK.

Balonys Love Levity ~ Was and still is our favorite cocker!!

These were the lines we wanted in our breeding and we felt that we were ready to go one step further.

By the way it is the picture of Wise-Choice I’M a Winner, Silas, which is the lovely sight on our front-page.

From England Denise came to live by our Danish friends. Her pedigree name was Mossdew Video Star. After a short while she moved to live by us, and she was the mother to the very first litter to be born in our home. The sire to the puppies was Wise-Choice I’M a Winner. This was the foundation of our kennel.

Mossdew Video Star - Denise

Though in cooperation with Kennel Wise-Choice Fleur was born here – her pedigree name was Wise-Choice Clever Cleopetra.

She and her mother – Denise - stayed as a dear member of the family. As time went by, she showed that she had inherited the very best from both her parents.

She was showed – and she had many fine winnings – but when she received her first C.C. – given to her by Kim Bay DK – we were rather proud.

A C.C. won by a bitch from our very first litter – that was something special.

Fleur was mated to Harris Of Lynwater, and we decided to keep a bitch from this litter.

We named her Stardew Any Place Is Paradise – but when we call her it is Clair – Countess or Sweetie. Call her sweet names – and she comes.

Clair was a Danish Show Champion before she was mated for the first time. She is a true cocker in mind and looks and she has given many more people and us healthy – lovely puppies.

She is the centre of “our flock” and she enjoys her old age and her position to the full. Anyway we waited to her last litter before we had room for puppies born by Clair.

But in 1997 she had an excellent litter by C’est Si Bon Oscar De La Renta. The litter was 5 orange- and 3 blue roans – and we had to keep a dog – Stardew Save Up All Your Tears – called Julius and a bitch Stardew Angel Heart – called Isabell.

They both own the true cocker type and mind – and being able to use the two of them in our breeding – we have the possibility to maintain our originally goal – to preserve the cocker according to the standard – never forget the every wagging tail.

When we had seen the quality of the lines brought by C’est Si Bon Oscar De La Renta we had the great pleasure to be able to buy his litter sister C’est Si Bon LouLou Blue.

She had her first litter in our home – made in cooperation with Hans Andersen Kennel C’est Si Bon. The sire to the litter was CH Ladlor Libido – a dog with solid english lines who has sired many puppies in Denmark.

Born in our home – although still paper wise by C’est Si Bon – we decided to keep C’est Si Bon La Leste Louise to show – and what a show dog – you will be able to find her show career at her own page.

She was such a beauty – and we had to try again.

The next litter was born – and once again we kept a bitch. She is mums dog – but shown by Rikke. Already before her first birthday, she received her first Certificate. We do see Emma’s winnings as a proof to the fact that the line of our breeding is still intact.

Our beloved C’est Si Bon Mirifique Maurice – Osvald, died far too young – but he did indeed leave his stamp on the Danish – Icelandic & Swedish Cockers.

He sired several litters breed by bonafide breeders in these countries and one litter in Germany. When he was four years old we decided that he should not be the father of hundreds of puppies.

We continued though to breed from Osvald at STARDEW. His last litter was born one week after his death.
All his children shows signs of becoming real cockers. Several of his children have had their show-debut with great results. His qualities are passed on for the next generation as well – his grandchildren are looking beautiful and they carry on the superb temperament Osvald possessed.

As we still wants to retain the solid English type of cockers we have got a new little gentleman to our home.

We are now the happy owners of Dan-L’s Dollar Note. He is a true merry cocker who totally lives up to our greatest hopes. We are very grateful to Helle and Per, for letting us have this very special boy. We have never owned a cocker with such an amazing temperament and beautiful looking too.

Last rose in the STARDEW garden is Stardew Hearts Of Olden Glory. She is the Great-Granddaughter og Clair.

We wish KENNEL STARDEW in the future should be the trademark of typical – healthy – puppies that functions well – as a true cocker must.

To make sure that it will be so – our daughter is now a co owner of KENNEL STARDEW.
